Elizabeth K. Rukundo specialises in corporate governance and regulatory compliance law for multinational corporations, start-up companies and non-profit organizations. She also practices corporate and commercial law, corporate advisory and tax. She has designed and implemented complex, best-practice regulatory compliance programs for diverse clients to meet local legal and regulatory requirements.

Prior to joining the firm in 2011, Elizabeth worked with World Vision International Uganda where she was board secretary and executive associate to the country director and was previously advocacy manager.

She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University and is licenced to practice in the courts of Uganda. Elizabeth attained her Masters of Law degree from Southern Methodist University, Texas specialising in international business transactions and tax. She is also a certified Chartered Secretary from the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) U.K.

Elizabeth practices in the corporate governance department (registered as SM Registrars) and the corporate and commercial department. She is a member of the law societies of Uganda and East Africa.

Experience includes:

  • Represented a multi-million dollar corporation as contract in-house counsel working with external legal due diligence team for IPO in the East Africa Region, including engaging with the Capital Markets Authority.
  • Advised top management and board of directors on key risk management strategies and review of organizational policies to meet international financing contracts with international funding agencies.
  • Established a new practice area within the firm focusing on corporate compliance and as team leader for corporate governance, created and grew a team of specialized attorneys to provide a broader range of services increasing the firm’s overall revenue.
